Stable Moments Program

What is Stable Moments? 

Stable Moments is a mentorship program that matches

•   1 community mentor, with
    1 foster or adopted child and
    1 horse for
    1 hour per week for 4 months of the year

• to develop life skills for healthy transitions into adulthood.

  Each child is given a plan of care that is color coded for the life skill areas they are working on. Community mentors then choose activities based on those colors.

  To track progress, mentors complete activity logs at the end of each session. We also collect pre and post test data for life skill improvement and complete progress summaries at the mid-point and end of session the year.

What are life skills?  

Life skills are abilities to manage emotions and relationships, and for most children, these skills are seamlessly built within the context of loving and healthy family relationships. Typically children who have been adopted or who are currently in foster care have had traumatic disruptions to their development, and may experience struggles in these areas.  Our director and the parent/guardian work together to develop a plan of care for each participant. Our goal is to help each child build life skills for a healthy transition into adulthood. 

Who can participate?

We are currently enrolling now for sessions starting May!

While horses are a valuable part of the equation, a relationship with a committed adult makes all the difference in the world to kids.  We understand that it may seem like a big time commitment.  To help put it into perspective, please take just a few minutes of your time to watch the video below!

(Note: The video mentions a time commitment of 9-10 months of the year.  Here, due to Alaskan winters, our program will run roughly from May-September, only 4 months of the year).
